About Petabox

An engineering company that builds infrastructure and then lives with it in production.

We build our own storage

Petabox Object Storage is an S3-native platform built for heavy workloads, large data volumes, and infrastructure where customers need full control over hardware and data location. We designed and built it ourselves, so the code, its performance, and its evolution are in our hands.

When a deployment exposes a bottleneck, an operational limitation, or a security issue, our engineers work directly at the product level: they investigate it, change the code, and ship the fix or add the capability required. We do not have to wait for an external vendor, maintainer, or release cycle.

We operate the data platform as a system

A data platform is a set of connected parts: object storage, the data services on top of it, monitoring, and backups. Our engineers deploy and operate them together.

We look at how the platform behaves as a whole: where data moves, where bottlenecks appear, how components depend on one another, and what happens during failures or upgrades. When a problem crosses service boundaries, it does not bounce between teams and vendors: the same team follows it through to resolution.

We have seen some things

Large systems fail in ways that are hard to predict on a diagram or reproduce in a test environment. We have dealt with overloaded clusters, failed hardware, and replication issues. We have watched upgrades go wrong, networks misbehave, and traffic patterns shift without warning. We have faced capacity limits, migrations that turned out to be much less straightforward than expected, and recovery failures.

That experience feeds directly back into how we design the platform and how we operate it. We spend less time assuming that infrastructure will behave as planned, and more time engineering for what happens when it does not.

We build what is missing

Sometimes the platform needs more than configuration. It may need automation, migration tooling, monitoring components, or integrations. Sometimes it means software that does not exist yet.

Our engineers design and build those pieces when a project requires them. They may become part of the platform, remain specific to a customer, or solve a one-off migration or operational problem.

If the job needs a new tool, we write it.
